
Here is a list of all the tools & materials I have used while building my AK Cobra:
Tools
Screwdrivers – various
- Spanners - metric & imperial
- Pliers – various
- Pop Rivet Gun
- Welder – Welding gloves & mask
- Drill – I used both a battery pack drill and a cable power drill (useful back-up for when the battery packs run down) larger 13mm chuck size is needed
- Inspection lamp
- Head torch
- Battery charger
- Allen keys – metric & imperial
- Socket set - metric & imperial
- Tap & die Set
- Rubber mallet
- Wire crimpers – get a good one it will make easy work of electrical connections
- Vice – bolted to workbench
- Soldering iron
- Files - round and flat, eat through GRP like butter
- Mini files - good on metal, not so good on GRP
- Work bench
- Tool box – large stainless
- Hairdryer - used for drying bits and warming washer pipes before push on
- Dremmel – it is amazing how many times you will use it
- Angle grinder – for the jobs that are too big for the Dremmel
- Bench grinder – a must for polishing all the stainless screws and bolt heads
- Ratchet spanners – often much easier to use than a socket set
- Torque wrench – not essential, but sometimes better to be safe than sorry
- Jigsaw – for the door panels and for cutting metal sheet neatly
- Cobalt drills - for drilling stainless steel
- Angle drill – for those hard to get to places
Materials
- Masking tape - lots!
- Double sided tape
- WD40 – for removing contact adhesive overspill
- White spirit – for removing paint from brushes
- Contact adhesive – heat resistant for the carpet trimming & dashboard
- Hammerite - for painting inside of the boot rims and any other parts of the chassis that require making good
- Underbody sealant - for inside the nose and under wheel arches
- Dust sheets
- Cotton dusters for polishing (bought a wholesale box)
- Hylomar blue - for sealing fuel components
- Silicone sealant – Sikkaflex black and clear - gap filling, waterproofing etc
- Electrical connectors
- Blade fuses – large selection
- Heat shrink
- Insulation tape – various colours to help with the wiring
- P Clips - stainless
- Jubilee clips – stainless
- Cable ties
- Nuts, bolts, washers – stainless wherever possible, too many to mention, many varieties
- Sandpaper - wet and dry, grades 400 and 1200
- Araldite
- Super glue Loctite
- Fiberglass
- P38 Isopon
- Cutting compounds – for polishing
