Pilgrim Cars Ltd - Mackley Ind Est, Small Dole, W Sussex.
Considering how I got the idea of building a Cobra (while watching a car is born) I was really looking forward to visiting the Pilgrim factory.
Now that I had been to DAX I was in a better position to make comparisons. When you only look at one type you have nothing to compare with and will no doubt be very impressed with the first one you look at. Anyway, I arrived and got a warm reception from Robin who gave me a tour and was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, he even provided an insight as to how the 'Car is born' program was made and what role Mark Evans had in the build........ bit of 'myth-busting' really!
When I sat in the car I liked it and thought I preferred it to the DAX. I would say at this point I was also considering the build cost being possibly a little less than Dax and I was still captivated from the DVD.
I thought the demonstrator vehicle looked good but again the final fit and finish was not as good as I would expect. There are some subtle differences across the manufacturers in the body shape, for example the Pilgrim front arches are not so well blended into the shape of the wing and the rear arches are slightly narrower. Subsequent to visiting the Pilgrim factory I did some research on the Cobra Club forum and it became clear that there are several ongoing issues with the Pilgrim build. These issue are well documented in the forum and while they all have remedies, they really should have been corrected by Pilgrim during manufacture.
